At this time of year, with Christmas literally around the corner, Harrods is known so very well for its famous Christmas Grotto, but today, Versace on the First Floor was the place to be.
Customers weren’t chasing Santa, they were trying to catch a glimpse of icon Donatella Versace as she visited the store and kicked off her book ‘world tour’. Donatella posed for selfies and photographs, with 50 very lucky fans who got to have their copy of ‘Versace’ signed by the fashion queen herself.
The book (although we haven’t finished reading it all just yet) is a stunning ‘chronicle’ of Donatella Versace’s life, and life’s work. It begins with beautiful pictures of Donatella with her family – the core of the Versace brand and legacy – and then unfolds in to a bold and colourful tale of the brand. There is so much history it’s so easy to forget how huge the Versace brand is. From the head of Medusa logo that has been carried through over the decades, and is emblazoned on everything from clothing to bed linen to crockery, to Prince in ‘that’ chainmail outfit – and to whom the book is dedicated to. With dancers of all races and backgrounds in advertising campaigns – it struck me just how diverse the brand has been since its very beginning. Versace have dressed music and fashion’s most elite and their creations are seen on every major red carpet from the Oscars to the Met Gala. A Versace dress or suit is instantly recognisable.
And whilst some people are simply ‘designers’, it is the combination of Donatella’s talent, creativity, personality and faultless glamour that have made her a favourite amongst superstars all over the world.
To say fashion was in her DNA, would be accurate. She says herself that her initials after all, do practically spell diva – D.V.
You can get your hands on a copy of the book at the Harrods bookstore. We couldn’t recommend it more.
Thank you Harrods for our very special copy!
