I’ve been procastinating for days on what to write as my first post for 2017… I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions – more so in intentions. I feel like listing resolutions is almost setting ourselves up for failure – and what an unnecessary pressure to place on one’s self for an entire year.

On the eve of London Collections Mens, I was invited to Vivienne Westwood’s party and got chatting about all things – well, non fashion. Vivienne has made no secret of using fashion as her path to being an activist. So we discussed loving fashion, and the exciting new collection that is to be shown on Monday, but focused more so on what we can do with fashion to make a difference and really start changing the world.

Conversation aside – and in light of it being a new year – it suddenly dawned on me that once upon a time I was a little girl with the ‘wildest dreams’. I was often told that I had ‘ridiculous’ dreams that were totally unrealistic, unachievable and unattainable – all the un words you could think of I guess. Fast forward many moons, and here I am, chatting with Dame Vivienne Westwood. No ‘ins’ to the fashion industry. No connections or people holding doors open for me. But through hard work, perseverance – and even more hard work I got to where I am today. Wherever that may be…

So I guess my first post of 2017 is more of a positive message than any resolution or even any intention. But just a note, to say that I always hope you can find a way to believe in yourself. Believe in that ‘inner’ child who had a dream – the wildest of… Never forget to keep believing in you. It really is never too late to achieve something you once dreamed of. Because from where I stand – I’ve achieved way more than I ever dreamed of. And I’m only just getting started…

Happy 2017! From myself, and the Dame.
